Are you hosting Thanksgiving dinner this year? I’m sharing this recipe yet once again. I’ve shared it the past couple years, but I have to share it again cause it’s just that good and if you haven’t tried it yet you really need to.
A turkey dinner just isn’t complete without cranberry salad – and not just any recipe either – it has to be my Grandma’s recipe.
My Grandma went home to heaven in early December a couple years ago. Recipes she passed down are special. I will think of her every time I make this – and remember the time I called her to ask exactly how she made it.
Grandma Bussey’s Cranberry Salad
Print Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup raw cranberries
- 2 oranges
- 3-4 apples
- 2-3 stalks celery
- 1 can crushed pineapple undrained (20oz.)
- 2 pkg. raspberry jello
- 2 cup hot water
- 1 cup cold water
- 3/4 cup sugar
Instructions
Chop cranberries, apples, oranges, and celery in food processor.
Dissolve jello in 2 cups hot water
When jello is dissolved add 1 cup cold water
Stir chopped fruit, celery, crushed pineapple and sugar into jello mixture.
Pour into bowl and refrigerate till set.
Serve with every turkey dinner ever!
Your fruit should look like this when chopped. I always use a food processor.
I like to use a clear glass dish for cranberry salad because it shows all the vibrant colors.
Serve with a traditional Turkey meal – you know, turkey, dressing, potatoes, gravy…
To me a turkey dinner is not complete without Grandma Bussey’s Cranberry Salad. YUM.

Love that cranberry salad and, like you, I will always think of Grandma Bussey when I make it or eat it. You have really good pics of the whole process. (Just don’t grate instead of chopping or grinding. It’s not the same at all!)

Just reading about the loss of your dear grandma. Sending hugs to you and your family. I find that continuing the traditions of those we have lost, fills the heart and head with memories of so many wonderful moments.
I lost my grandpa before Thanksgiving last year. He loved the holidays and embraced the spirit of giving and helping others.
My grandma makes a similar cranberry salad minus the apples and oranges. She also adds walnuts and prefers to use strawberry jello. I have taken over the job of making her salad for our holiday gatherings. I would love to try your recipe variations, but would have to serve it to my household. Some family traditions cannot be changed.;)

Jill- I just pulled this out of my recipe file to get the ingredients. Is that a LARGE can of crushed pineapple or a short one – and do you drain the pineapple? I know sometimes the amount of liquid makes things set up differently. AND I hate to sound STOOOOPID-but are the cranberries cooked first or left raw? Thanks!

sounds like a great variation of cranberry salad. (celery seems to add a lot to so many recipes) Does your family also include home made noodles to your special meals ???

Brenda we don’t make homemade noodles. someday I’d like to have a pasta maker but my kitchen is so small I just don’t have room to store all the cool gadgets I’d like to have!

Jill, the recipe looks delicious. I’m not cooking Thanksgiving dinner this year because my house is all tore up from remodeling. I decided that the family would eat out. Not the same but no one else is cooking. I certainly will make this for Christmas dinner.

I applaud the decision to eat out when your house is torn up! And we always have a turkey dinner for Christmas at my hubbys so I make this for then. I have a hard time finding fresh cranberries at Christmastime so I buy a bag at Thanksgiving and use half for then and freeze the other half and get them out for Christmas.
