Friends.

This recipe has been a looooong time coming.

I’ve been making this Cinnamon Butter on repeat for months now, and we’ve been putting it on all kinds things.

Although this is the closest thing to the famous and totally addictive Texas Roadhouse Cinnamon Butter, it’s actually not inspired by it.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve indulged in my share of warm Texas Roadhouse rolls slathered in cinnamon honey butter over the years when I get down South. But this recipe came about when I realized that the cinnamon spread my mom used to buy us for our toast was no longer sold at the grocery store.

I’ll be honest — I was a little distraught.

I had a serious craving that wasn’t going to just go away, so my only option was to figure out how to make it at home.

Since that day I haven’t stopped making it, and I often will bake more breads and muffins just so I don’t resort to eating it with a spoon.

I recommend trying it on these Cinnamon Raisin Scones, Banana Nut Bread or Cinnamon Apple Muffins!

How do you make Cinnamon Butter?

There are only 5 ingredients that make up this easy and delicious spread: Butter, honey, powdered sugar, cinnamon and salt.

I have tried making cinnamon honey butter without the powdered sugar, and I could just never get the taste and texture quite right like that. So for me, a little powdered sugar makes this recipe just perfect, though if you prefer you could try adding additional honey in place of the powdered sugar or you can skip it completely, but I think this way is the best way.

Tips for storing this Cinnamon Butter:

You can store cinnamon butter on the counter at room temperature for up to 1-2 days. If you use hard margarine (don’t judge!) you might be able to store it even longer, but at that point I really like to refrigerate to extend the life of it (since, believe it or not, I don’t eat the whole jar with a spoon the day I make it 😉 ).

Cinnamon honey butter can be refrigerated for 1 month or frozen for 6 months without the quality becoming affected.

It’s also great on pancakes, waffles, bagels or toast (I highly recommend you try it with cinnamon raisin bread!).

Variations of this recipe:

  • This cinnamon honey butter is naturally gluten-free and vegetarian.
  • You can easily make this recipe dairy-free by substituting the butter for vegan margarine (I use Becel)
  • You can make this recipe vegan (though I haven’t tried this way myself) by substituting the butter for vegan margarine and the honey for maple syrup. Note that this will give it a distinct maple flavour.
  • Note: we like our cinnamon butter on the sweet side. If you prefer it less sweet, skip the sugar completely and start with ¼ cup honey.

I tried this recipe to use on sweet potatoes. It was good. However, from the comments above, I decided to eliminiate the sugar, and I used salted butter instead, but eliminated the salt in the recipe. My family enjoyed it. It wasn’t too sweet. Thanks for sharing

I agree with the people saying there’s WAAAAAY too much honey. I even thought so while pouring it in. Even with adding more butter, this turned out dark brown because of how much honey is in it.

I’m sorry to hear that, Lauren. I have no idea why you are getting the result that you are and I am not able to replicate the problem. Others have enjoyed it so I wished it would of been the same for you.

I can’t wait to try this, it sounds yummy. My question is does this need to be stored in the refrigerator?

Hi Dena, you can store cinnamon butter on the counter at room temperature for up to 1-2 days, any longer it needs to be place in the refrigerator. Enjoy!

I made this butter specifically to gift with cinnamon raisin scones, but upon a taste test (like others), all I could taste was honey. So, I added an additional tsp of cinnamon and about 1/4 c chopped walnuts, which made it palatable.

I used Cabot butter and locally grown honey, which in a tsp and in a cup of tea, tastes fabulous! I do not believe it’s the honey per se, as much as I believe it’s the amount of honey called for in the recipe. Afterall, you did say, you and yours like this butter on the sweeter side!

I will try making this butter again, as I do appreciate the shared recipe, but not with so much honey!

I have found; not to use a cheap brand of honey. Go for a better brand. A whole different flavor of butter when using the cheap (store) brand than using a higher price brand. Same with the brand of butter.

I would recommend only using 1 Tbsp of honey to start and then add as needed. This was delish! I used Costco salted butter so I did not add butter. This is soooo good!

I was looking forward to using this with my dinner rolls for Thanksgiving. I did a trial run and, unfortunately, this tastes nothing like the Texas Roadhouse butter. I wouldn’t usually leave a review, but now that a stick of butter is nearly $2, I think it’s worth letting others know. Try a different recipe.

Hi Emily while I was fixing recipe as far as my knowledge I doubled everything else besides the honey it was really good…so if you ever decide to try this again I would do half of the honey that it shows to use

I love cinnamon spread and was so sad when they discontiued it so I tries this recipe and it just tastes like honey and I dont know what to do. I am not a huge fan of honey so I am not very happy with it. So if anyone has any ideas? Is it just me with this problem

    Reply

    • The Recipe Rebel says

Hi Anna! I have no idea why it would just taste like honey. The cinnamon normally does a good job of balancing the flavors plus the powdered sugar. Maybe try increasing both of them to see if that helps you.
