Is fruit juice healthy

It depends on your perspective.

If you’re super healthy and eat really “clean”, you might say that all store bought juices have a lot of fructose, or fruit sugar. You might add that fresh (not pasteurized) juice is healthier, because you get more fiber and living enzymes.

And you’d be right!

But, if you’re at a party and being offered sodas, carbonated drinks with stevia or conventional fruit juice, I think you’d agree that organic juice that’s diluted with something really clean and special (tea!) is a GREAT party drink option.

And that’s where these beautiful recipes make their entrance!

For those of you on restricted diets, I’m not suggesting you start drinking juice everyday.

But for entertaining and special events, Juiced Teas are nothing short of natural and WONDERFUL!

Special diets

These recipes fit well for Paleo, Vegan, Gluten-free and many other whole food diets. You can even make your own juice to make the recipes AIP, Anti-Inflammatory or GAPS compliant.

What is Juiced Tea

I first started making juiced iced tea when my oldest daughter (now age 22) was really little. I remember making a Juiced Tea recipe for the guests at her 2nd birthday party — so at least 20 years of this tradition in our home!

Combine home-brewed tea, either herbal, green or black, with really high quality juice, and sometimes a small amount of natural sweetener. You end up with something that’s more special than either juice or tea.

It’s also more refreshing, party-worthy, thirst quenching and even more delicious!

5 flavors of Juiced Iced Tea — and ingredients

1. Jasmine Green-White Grape Juiced Iced Tea

I’m sharing this flavor first because of all the flavors I’ve shared with friends and family, this is the one most celebrated. While not as brightly colored, the nuances in it are truly incredible.

People don’t know what they’re drinking (that elusive jasmine!), they just want more of it.

Special like white wine or a co*cktail, but sweet and non-alcoholic, you also notice the tannins of the green tea and the incomparable flavor of sweet white grapes.

This recipe is also at the top of the list because it requires no added sweetener to taste perfect! Fruit juice sweetened!

Just 2 ingredients, plus water:

Make this flavor first if you’re intrigued and know it will taste as good as it sounds …!

2. Black Tea (decaf or regular) with Concord Grape or Blackberry Juice

With this recipe, I give one juice variation, because some of the juices are harder to find (when you shop at grocery stores … I also give online links below). Both juice options taste great and work really well with the tea selected.

This recipe combination again celebrates the tannin flavor of black tea, mixed with the tannins in either blackberries or Concord grapes.

If you love those deep dark rich notes with the hint of astringency (pucker), you’ll love Black Tea-Blackberry/Concord Grape Juice. Beautiful to serve with dinner, especially one with robust flavors.

A lovely non-alcoholic alternative to red wine. No added sweetener!

3. Blueberry Mint Juiced Iced Tea

If you’ve ever had 100% blueberry juice, you know how good it is. It tastes exactly like blueberries, but so rich, intense and concentrated in flavor.

The perfect thing to dilute that elixir is herbal mint tea. These two often grow side by side each summer, here in Oregon, but also worldwide. The flavors of mint and pine can sometimes even be found in blueberries.

And mint is more mysterious in flavor than many of us realize. It adds the perfect refreshing quality to many people’s favorite berry.

This is a good drink to savor or gulp! Sweetened just lightly for the right balance of flavors.

4. Peach Juiced Iced Tea recipe, no sugar … sweetened with juice + honey

Peach Juice + Peach Iced Tea create the most delicious sweet peachy refreshing flavor — so fruity, sweet and delicious!

Just 3 ingredients, plus water:

  • peach tea bags — Choose any peach tea that looks good. Here are a few good options:
    • Pique is the best quality organic tea — Find their Peach Ginger Black Tea here.
    • Republic of Tea sells both a regular and a decaf version of Ginger Peach Black Tea. I found both at my local Natural Grocers. This product is not organic, so that’s the real downside.
    • Here’s a White Hibiscus and Peach Green Tea.
    • For the strongest peach flavor and a completely herbal option, choose Celestial Seasonings Country Peach Passion.
  • peach juiceHere’s where to find a great one. Most have additives, so that link leads to a one-ingredient organic juice that’s delicious.
  • honey, maple syrup or agave nectar

5. Cranberry Rooibos Juiced Iced Tea

For those of you, who like me, love earthy, red and tart flavors, this drink is a wonderful herbal fruit concoction.

I like to make mine extra tart, and then pour it over ice.

But yes, cranberry juice must be sweetened. I use maple syrup in this recipe, but you may also use honey or agave, if preferred.

So thirst quenching and delicious, perfect for those who also love lemon herbal teas.

Equipment

  • pot for boiling water

  • pitcher or mason jar for steeping tea (can handle boiling water) + for chilling and serving the drink

Ingredients

White Grape Juice-Jasmine Green Tea -- The most special of all the flavors for those who appreciate nuances. (No added sweetener.)

Cranberry Juice-Rooibos Tea -- Tart and earthy, easy to love.

Concord Grape/Blackberry Juice-Black Tea (or decaf black) -- You taste the grape first and finish with sweet black tea. (No added sweetener.)

Peach Juice-Peach Tea -- Fruity, sweet and fresh peach tasting.

Blueberry Juice-Mint Tea -- A very satisfying drink that you both want to savor and gulp! The taste of absolute rich blueberry plus the mysteriously refreshing quality from mint. A most delicious cup!

Instructions

  • Heat water until boiling. Place tea bags into heat-proof glass pitcher. Add boiling water. Steep 5 full minutes (or longer), covered. Dunk bags up and down to release flavor, squeeze lightly if desired, and remove/compost the tea.

  • For those flavors that have added sweetener, stir it in now, to dissolve.

  • Add juice, and stir. Chill until cold.

  • Serve most flavors poured over ice. (The White Grape Juice-Jasmine Green Tea is almost like fruity wine to be savored, so I think this one needs ice least of all. The Cranberry-Rooibos flavor, if undiluted, needs ice the most, and is lusciously tart. All the other flavors, ice is optional but nice, to taste.)
